In the very first race with a brand new TSX, Pierre scores a 2nd place finish according to un-official results at the time of publication. RealTime is off to a good start on a car that can only get better through out the year. The TOV will be closely following their exploits in the TSX.
Look back here for the official full results when they become available. Here is RealTime's press release:
Acura TSX on Podium in Racing Debut
-Kleinubing 2nd at Sebring-
March 19, 2004 – Sebring, Fla.
RealTime Racing gave the A-SPEC equipped Acura TSX a second place finish in its debut in the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED Touring Car Championship at Sebring International Raceway in Florida.
Three-time Touring Car Driver’s Champion Pierre Kleinubing finished only 1.821 seconds away from a win in the initial outing for the TSX.
“The TSX handles absolutely fantastic!,” Kleinubing enthused. “”The car is very easy to drive, and I’m sure once we get to the tracks where handling and braking are more important than sheer top speed, the Acura TSX will be a winner.”
Kleinubing has now debuted two of Acura’s newest performance cars in the last 12 months – the RSX and now the TSX -- both at Sebring, and both to second place results.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better job from the RealTime Racing crew this weekend,” he said. “They took a really good car to start with, and made it a really great car.”
Kleinubing led the first eight laps of the race, jumping into the lead from his third place start. On a lap nine restart, eventual winner Bill Auberlen was able to pass Kleinubing, and stay there until the checkered flag fell.
Matt Plumb, the 2003 season Rookie of the Year, started 11th and finished 8th in his RealTime-prepared RSX.
Victor Gonzalez Jr., a 2004 Rookie of the Year candidate, was equally enthusiastic about his first race in a Real Time Racing Acura RSX. “I had a good car this weekend,” he said. “I could have done much better but I made a mistake in the Hairpin turn and dropped a wheel off course. The RSX is very easy to learn how to drive fast, and I hope to make it faster and finish higher. If I can do anything to help the team win the Manufacturers Championship, I’ll be happy.” Gonzalez finished in 12th position.
Kleinubing has finished first or second in Touring Car championship points every year since his 1997 debut with RealTime Racing. He won the championship in his rookie year, and repeated in 2000 and 2001.
The race will be televised on the SPEED Channel this Sunday, March 21 at Noon (EST).
The RealTime Racing Touring Cars are sponsored by the Acura Division of American Honda, A-SPEC Performance Parts, Red Line Oil, Eibach Springs, BOSCH, Sparco, Hella, Brembo, Gemini Technologies, Goodridge, Hawk Performance, and Acura Genuine Parts.
