I guess even Honda noticed that things are a little slow on the news front and decided to spice things up, just a little bit, by sending the following press release across the wire.
All-new Honda Accord Crosstour to Arrive in Fall 2009
New crossover vehicle based on Accord will debut as a 2010 model
TORRANCE, Calif., July 7, 2009 - An all-new crossover vehicle based on the award-winning Honda Accord will go on-sale in the fall of 2009 as the "Accord Crosstour," American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today. This new addition to the Honda lineup will be sold as a 2010 model. Additional information will be announced later in the year.
This is the ultimate of teasers, as there is barely anything revealed except the name (which we already knew). The only thing "new" about this is that it will apparently be badged as the "Accord Crosstour". I don't know whether or not that's similar to "Accord Coupe", where the sales of the CrossTourwill all be counted under the Accord banner (and simultaneously obfuscating the details of how well or how poorly the CrossTour itself is selling), but if they are, then this should help catapult the Accord nameplate to the top of the sales charts again. If not, the "Accord" portion of the badge is probably just to gain some instant showroom credibility and save salesmen a bunch of hassle in explaining to potential shoppers that it's really based on an Accord.
