For this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans FIM World Endurance motorcycle race, some French journalists from Moto Journal decided to race a Honda RC30 for the 20th anniversary of Honda's legendary endurance racing race bike.

The RC30 was the first HRC homologation special to be officially sold to the public and won the first two years of the World Superbike championship in addition to numerous wins in all forms of endurance racing around the world. It is a machine that has truly earned the title of 'Legendary'.

Of course, after some 20 years the RC30 isn't quite the rocketship it used to be. For this Saturday's race the Moto Journal team's qualifying time was 10 seconds slower than the pole position set by the Honda France team on a 2009 Fireblade. All things considered, that's not bad considering that the RC30 is being ridden by journalists.

Honda France is fielding an official CBR1000RR (Fireblade) in the race, ridden by Steve Plater (HM Plant Honda British Superbike rider), Mathieu Lagrive (Althea Honda World Supersport rider), and Sebastien Charpentier, who some will remember was a 2-time World Supersport Champion with Ten Kate Racing. The team of pro riders took pole position for the race, followed closely by another Fireblade fielded by Michelin.
