The ALMS race is now underway here in St. Petersburg and the Acuras are currently struggling a bit (Christian Fittipaldi had a spin), but just prior to the start of the race, Erik Berkman, president of Honda Performance Development (HPD) announced that HPD is now taking a close look at entering a car in the LMP1 (LeMans Prototype 1) class. The Acura Sports Car Challenge of St. Petersburg is currently being aired live on ABC.

UPDATE: David Brabham currently sits 3rd in LMP2 in the Patron Highcroft Acura ARX-01b. We're now into the umpteenth caution of the race. An Aston Martin was damaged pretty badly and just made it down the front straight on the back of a flatbed. Even though I'm here at the race and have a great view of the front straight, it's difficult to track exactly what's going on as from our vantage point in the grandstands, we don't have any timing screens or other realtime info to go from.

UPDATE: We're under caution again and Brabham is currently in 2nd with less than 8 minutes to go.

UPDATE: Brabham successfully defended his P2 position in LMP2 on the final lap. It was a pretty good fight once we finally went green. More pics to come soon. I just got singed by the embers of the celabratory fireworks. Ouch.
