Torrance, Calif. 02/03/2003 -- American Honda posted new records for light truck and total vehicle sales for January, with total vehicle sales of 90,003, up 6 percent from last year's previous record, according to figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
Light truck sales of 34,945 increased 21.4 percent and shattered the previous January record of 28,778 set in 2002. The Acura MDX luxury sport utility vehicle, Honda Element and Honda Pilot all set the pace for the record-breaking month. MDX sales of 3,811 units, up 11.3 percent, broke the previous January record of 3,423 in 2002. The Honda Pilot reported sales of 6,750 and the Honda Element 3,725 units.

Honda Division sales of 79,912 were 9.9 percent higher than last year, and broke last January's record for light trucks with sales of 31,134 units. Sales of the all-new seventh generation Accord were up 5.8 percent to 27,449 units, and Civic sales of 20,734 were up 4.4 percent.
