In case you forgot, the Speed World Challenge kicks off its 2006 season this weekend at Sebring. Qualifying was held today and as you can see in the press release below, RealTime got off to a pretty good start. Frank Dawson (our codemonkey in Florida) is scheduled to cover the race for the TOV tomorrow. We're hoping he will return with lots of photos to share with everyone.


March 16, 2006 – Sebring, Fla.


The returning champion RealTime Acura team qualified all five of its cars in the top 10 today for the opening round of the 2006 SCCA Pro Racing SPEED Touring Car Championship. The team’s three TSXs and two RSXs, sponsored by Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles, will race at Sebring International Raceway on Friday at 11:25 a.m. ET.

Pierre Kleinubing will start third in his Acura TSX when the red lights go out. Defending Touring Car Drivers’ Champion Peter Cunningham will be three spots behind him in another TSX. Eric Curran, who was fastest in both of Wednesday’s practice sessions driving an RSX, will start seventh. Nick Esayian’s RSX will line up in a career best eighth position and 2005 rookie of the year Brandon Davis will start tenth with a TSX.

The Acura brand will celebrate its 20th anniversary on March 27 and the RealTime crew will be working hard to give its manufacturer an early birthday present.

Friday’s touring car race will air on the Speed Channel this Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
