Well, I'm not sure if this is a first for the Japan market, but it is for the Euro and US ones.
The article is in German. The main facts are :
Honda has finally launched a CVT transmision with locked gears for a sequential use.
It has been fitted in the Honda Jazz / Fit, and is now on sale in Germany. The new CVT figures several programs such "sport" or other things you typically see in other manufacturers.
But the main thing is that it offers now the possibility to switch to a sequential mode with 7 gears (with typical + and - ).
And I'm not sure about it, but from what I've understood, there are also differences in the sequential mode, depending of the program chosen. In the sport one, you should be able to push until the rev limiter, and if you do so the car automaticaly engage the next gear.
All in all, the auto sprints (Honda data) to 62 mph in the same time as the manual version, but loosing 10 kmph (near 6 mph) in top speed.
The automatic version adds 1180 euros (1120 US $) to the manual one.
