Statement by American Honda Regarding Rear Camera Noncompliance Recall: 2018 Honda Accord and 2019 Honda Insight
Sep 27, 2018 - TORRANCE, Calif.
- Approximately 232,000 vehicles will be recalled in the United States to update the software that controls the rear camera display, for free
- No related crashes or injuries have been reported
American Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 232,000 model year 2018 Honda Accord vehicles and model year 2019 Honda Insight vehicles in the United States to update the software that controls the rear camera display, free of charge. Due to incorrect software programming, the center screen that normally displays the rearview image may not provide the image during backing events following certain usage scenarios, even after the vehicle is restarted. A failure to display the rearview image does not comply with federal requirements (FMVSS 111, Rear visibility) and could increase the risk of a crash. Honda has received no reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of affected vehicles to take them to an authorized dealer as soon as possible for the free repair. Mailed notification to owners of affected vehicles will occur in early-November 2018. Owners of these models can also determine if their vehicles require repair now by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (888) 234-2138.
