A surprising development has emerged today with the news that Mike Accavitti has left Acura. His replacement will be Jon Ikeda, perhaps best known by the TOV community for his design efforts on the 3rd generation Acura TL. Acura PR has confirmed the change but are unable to offer further comment at this time.
This leaves us wondering about the future of Acura and the circumstances surrounding Accavitti's departure. From our interactions with Accavitti over the years, he seemed to be committed to turning Acura's fortunes around. Apart from the NSX project, it seemed like there may not have been sufficient activity to support his ambitions to move the Acura brand forward - and this could have become a key sticking point. This is 100% conjecture, but our best guess is that Accavitti recently learned that he did not have the support he sought to put Acura where he thought it needed to be and decided now was a good time to exit. We could be wrong on this but without any comment from American Honda, we're left with speculation.
