Motor Trend tests the TSX this month vs. the Saab 9-3 Arc and the M-B C230 with Sport Package. The acceleration times were 0-60 in 7.9 and the 1/4 in 16.0@88.8mph. A bit slower than expected, but MT complained of significant wheelhop hindering the launch. Nonethless, the TSX was still notably faster than the turbocharged Saab (210 hp/221 lbs-ft) and the supercharged Benz (189 hp/192 lbs-ft). All three cars weighed within 50 lbs of each other.
However, despite noting that the TSX was the edgiest, most driver-oriented sedan in the test (almost making you forget its FWD) and also packed the most equipment at the lowest price - MT ranked it second behind the Benz, opining that the handling could be even sharper (huh, its already the sharpest in the bunch...SC) and that the brakes faded too much under heavy use.
While we may disagree with the final assessment (the Benz was $2000 more expensive, while lacking a CD changer, nav system and power seats!), its a good first showing for the TSX. We here at TOV know about the wheelhop issues (our RSX was plagued by it at the dragstrip on a sticky surface). Here's hoping we can do a little better and hit our target of 15.5 uncorrected for the 1/4 mile time on the TSX in next month's test.
