SHit man... toyota really fast!
but i am happy for button. he is really working hard.
I think JV didnt get good balance whole practice session and and it showed in qualifying. Trulli was also much faster than Alonso....
Engine was not down on power as last year. things going well for BAR.
goo button.
but my fav. has to be JV still. how the hell he is 12th !????????????????????????????? richard screwed somewhere.

noooo...TOYota not fast...MICHELIN fast ONCE AGAIN

Bridgestone is now firmly on my "shit list"

Button did a great job...I'm not sure what the deal is with JV...maybe they're trying to bracket qualifying hour tomorrow by getting one late and one early??? Even in practice, though, JB was about .9 faster.....

Only three Ferrari tires in the top 10 and two were on Ferrari's. Yes, this Japanese company is definitely going on that defecation list. I feel JV is either running harder tires or maybe the team is trying to run one of the cars with more fuel to work more on balance for the race.

Hopefully BAR Honda can keep the slower cars behind them this time around.

I really don't see the point on all this comments about Bridgestone. Last years they were faster than Michelin and I've never heard of BAR being quicker thanks to them.

Of course, now they seem to be slower than Michelin's, but that's not a reason for saying all those things and treating them as "shit". And anyway, don't forget each team choose its tyres, so if BAR is slow because of Bridgestones, this is BAR's fault, not Bridegesntone's.

Last year the Ferrari's were faster on Bridgestones. The other teams were about even for most of the season. I do not feel that Toyota is faster than BAR and Sauber. Yet on this track they were much faster than Sauber and faster than BAR. Even Ferrari in their super car were barely quicker than a Renault.

The pattern pops out when you look at BAR, Sauber, et al relative to the rest of the field

On what we've seen so far, I'd make the following ranking for car "expectations" for pace...

Ferrari between P1 and P6
McLaren between P2 and P8
Williams between P2 and P12
Renault between P3 and P11
BAR between P4 and P13
Sauber between P6 and P13
Toyota between P8 and P15
Jordan between P10 and P19
Jaguar between P11 and P19
Minardi between P13 and P20

the tires seem to be what boosts and lowers different teams...I don't know, man...it just seems that Michelin has the better of bridgestone, so it's Bridgestone whacking season..if this board didn't have something to complain about, they'd all get, well, bored!

Bring back Firestone then....    (Score: 1, Normal) 05-02-2003 11:14

OK, I'll bite..... I think F1 ought to bring back the Firestone name.... Just think a few of them black sidewalls with raised white letters would be so kitsch that even the french would appreciate the gesture.

Also the support vehicles should all be fitted with Firestone 500s -the original, infamous blow out tire from the 70s - so that even if the race were a Ferrari cakewalk, al least we'd see some action in the paddock and the in field..... ;-)

Actually last year Michelin won:

Average grid position for Michelin: 9.8
Average grid position for Bridgestone: 10.5
Average grid position for Bridgestone without Ferrari: 12.8

Average lap time for Michelin: 1m21.875
Average lap time for Bridgestone: 1m21.968
Average lap time for Bridgestone without Ferrari: 1m22.395

I think that the Bridgestone tires are better than the Michelins-as long as they are installed on the Ferrari chassis that they were designed for!

I thought championships were measured in points?

Bridgestone had more points than Michelin -- in fact they had more points with Ferrari alone than everyone else. They also had more race wins, but that doesn't amount to much nowadays with the new points system. I don't think it's relevant to look at Bridgestone minus Ferrari; if we take away Ferrari, then JPM is WDC and that statement means absolutely nothing.

This season, it doesn't seem to be a contest at all (i.e. any stat will point in Michelin's favour).
