Apparently the new CEO is taking honda on a different path here.

Well at least he acknowledged the "confussion" in the Acura line-up.

I don't think Acura should be selling Civic Hatchbacks.

I love the ZDX and all, but when it comes to "green and efficiency" the ZDX is the exact opposite of those corporate philosophies.

Who knows, maybe Acura can be the first American car brand that has a dedicated green philosophy / set up.

Yes, Acura is by default an American company, putting it in the likes of Cadillac, Buick, Lincoln, etc. I mean it's freaking only offered here and China, and even in China Acura has little to do with the Japanese.

Acuras confusion comes first and foremost from the perception that it has no real direction. NSX? V-8? no
V-10? front wheel drive? rear wheel drive? all wheel drive 6 speed no 7 speed automatic ahhh which way is the wind blowing today? GEEZ! Commit to something anything ... starting with the following.

1. Fire Merrick and his design staff

2. separate president for Acura in every respect.

How the hell do you expect to hardball it with Mercedes and BMW when you don't even know who you are?

Honda doesn't want Acura to "hardball" with Mercedes and BMW. Why even play in a market that is shrinking overall? Fuel-efficient vehicles are what made Honda cars popular in the USA initially and it's probably what will help them in the future. If Honda can extend their fuel-efficient platforms by making Acura versions, they will do it.

Acura is simply a profitable platform extender. If you want a BMW, go buy one. If you want a Mercedes, go buy one. However, I don't think it is Honda's intention to really compete against those brands.

Well, like most every car model, the ZDX project was likely started about 3 years ago. Thankfully, despite not meeting the current philosophies, it does seem to be helping the "Tier One" brand image.
