Seriously look at the picture of the original Insight and the new Insight, it's obviously a four door evolution of the original. I know I never got an insight, because there was so little room, now with this insight, I can't wait for it go on sale.

Thanks for posting.

As a matter of fact, the 1st gen Prius was not a hatch and didn't have the batteries under the trunk floor. By all means, Toyota actually "copied" Honda main ideas for the 1st Insight and applied them wisefully into their 2nd-gen Prius.

That said, it's still understandable that for many people the new Insight may seem like a "copy" of the Prius, mainly because everybody has come to know the Prius where as not many around the world have actually seen a first gen Insight.

Actually, I suspect that reason being the main one for Honda to call this new hybrid vehicle "Insight". It's a matter of saying clearly: "We haven't copied anyone, we were here before" (even if you didn't notice). Now, you can be sure that in any brochure (and maybe ads) of the new Insight you'll see the first one, then the evolution. In a way, it's a way of revalue their "heritage", which has not always been appreciated to its true measure.

Wow! someone smart finally shows up. Thanks for the side by side.

I can see all they did to the rear lights was sharpen the corner!

Next they will have to change those rear lights to a totally new style...then ppl can start saying its a rip off of this or that ect....but as it stands right now.

The new insight only rips off its style of one thing...the insight.

Almost all of your post are non-sensical.

The Insight was highly inspired by the EV1.
The new Insight is not a follow up to the Insight.
It's a follow up to the Prius to take some of Toyotas market share.

It shares absolutely nothing with the original Insight aside from the rear styling which will change for the production model you can't have the read deck lid extend into the bumper area for repair and insurance reasons.

Anyone who thinks this is anything resembling the original Insight knows nothing about the original.

'gen' should be after the word next.

Actually, knowing quite a bit about all three cars (EV1, Insight and Prius) they were all shaped by one thing, and one thing only. Aerodynamics.

Having said that, the only thing this Insight really shares with the Prius is 4 doors and an aerodynamic shape, which contrary to popular belief, Toyota did not invent.
