It's interesting they didn't give it VCM. Perhaps VCM's power issues were too big a liability. I thought for sure in these times it would get it.

I wonder how good the power delivery will be with the retuning.

i think this J35 is probably still a small step down from the one in the 04-06 MDX

I would like to see the new gear ratios. With 3-5% more bottom end torque plus, say, 7-8% tighter gearing the Ridge should be measurably quicker (and feel quicker still). My biggest problem with the Ridge has always been the relative lack of bottom end saddled by the tall and widely spaced gearing of Honda's 5AT.

Interestingly, this new tranny should really help the Ridgeline Baja race truck (which has to use OEM tranny parts). Whenever it has been at my shop one of the biggest complaints the driver has had is the tall gearing, especially combined with oversized tires.

Very possible, but they were specific about lower forward ratios. Changing the final drive changes _all_ ratios (including reverse).

This may answer some of your questions - Motor Trend has already road tested it:

what they should do is....

new J37 with VCM and close to 300hp with same or better EPA MPG as current.
and optional 4.8ish (think 2 K24 accord motors) V8 VCM with close to same EPA and around 375hp

Don't forget the 6 spd auto

Yeah, saw your other post. Sounds like the mods were quite effective. Too bad our Tahoe is paid off now. I wouldn't mind getting the superior handling and fit/finish of the Ridge and picking up a few mpg in the process. I just can't justify basically giving away the Tahoe on tradein. Maybe I'll put a Gear Vendors overdrive in it and open up the intake and exhaust for more economy/power.

Can someone explain to me why the Accord has more torque and horsepower than the Ridgeline pickup still?

One word: Tuning.

The Accord's J35 is tuned for top-end power delivery and a sportier nature, while the Ridgeline's J35 is tuned to deliver a broad torque curve more appropriate for a truck.
