Its an interesting idea. I am curious if Honda is creating a more car-like version of a Chevy Avalanche or something of that nature or even a Subaru Baja.

Confirmed that it'll have a V6, unibody based on MDX. It'll be a mid size truck similar to Dakota. Will be built in US. No V8 since Honda doesn't have one and won't have on by 05.

I am thinking this might look more like an Exploiter Sport Track. But without the 2" body panel gaps.

And I will take a Honda V6 over a domestic V8 any day.

If it has a towing capacity of about 5000 lbs I'll definitely buy one. I'd like to one day be able to tow my Honda racecar with a Honda truck...

common sense says:

if the MDX, Pilot, & Odyssey all have the same 3.5L VTEC V6 engine and has a towing capacity of 3500lbs, then a truck with the same block would have nearly the same towing capacity.

just kinda makes sense to me.
anyhow, when towing 3500lbs I recommend getting the transmission cooler installed. i love honda's, but you gotta baby your transmission.

A pickup truck might be lighter than the SUVs/Minivan, no? That would mean more power for towing.

I agree with the transmission cooler and oil coolers, in fact we had the towing package installed just to get the coolers even though we don't tow anything. The engine performed admirably in 100 degree weather climbing up the California Sierras to Lake Tahoe and Carson City at a steady 75 mph. Both ACs (Odyssey EX) were at full blast but the engine temp never budged.

What I would like to see is: Load and carry my Froman 4X4 and also be able to tow my boat 3000 lbs. I'm confidamt that Honda can build a great truck on a Unibody base. It will be stronger than some of the pickup I've been in.

From what I have seen and heard it will basically be a pilot with a truck bed. ( A quality built Sport Trac ) ( sorry to the Ford Boys ) It fits into the same drive train group as MDX , Pilot, Odyssey ( 3.5 V6 on the Accord based chassis). The Pilot proves that this type of vehicle can be unibody and still be stiff enough to work well. The issue will be availability, it will be another 60,000 per year vehicle so there will be a waiting list and most likly the dealers will make a killing.

Well that would explain why Honda has strangely decided to expand it's Lincoln Alabama Assembly plant. This plant has one Odyssey assembly line and will be doubled in size with another whole line. There may be a lot of demand for the Odyssey but not enought to double prodution from 120,000 to 240,000. Since the Odyssey and this new truck are so similar, the truck must be the reason behind the enormous plant expansion. If so we should expect exactly 120,000 Honda pickups per year.

I can't wait!!!
