Just wanted to ask you techies out there... Just how much good does a top mounted intercooler do, particularly when there is no bonnet scoop to feed it?

Acura is claiming that the big nose inlet is designed to feed cool, pressurized air to the intercooler. We'll see how it works, but I'm sure the engineers at least considered that in the design.

Apparently the grille feeds an air passage in the hood that then sends cool air through the intercooler. This probably falls somewhere between a traditional top-mount intercooler and a front-mount unit in terms of efficiency.

Correct. When the hood closes, it forms a tunnel that directs air directly over the intercooler when at speed. It's essentially the same design as the CX-7. While it might not be quite as efficient as a front-mount, the potential risk of damage from debris has to be far less.

Not a techie on the subject of turbos, but I recall someone posting that the front-mounted might be closer to the incoming air, but would be farther from the point where the air gets used. Thus, the initial cooling efficiency is lost later on during the air's path under the hood.

No idea how true that is. Just pulling doodoo out of my whazoo, I suppose. :-)

Cool. It looks like it will be pretty useful on the open road. Can't imagine it doing a hell of a lot of good in the city at the stop light drags though, what with hot air lofting off the top of the engine and not much air pressure coming in through the front.

Beginning to wonder if this intake/intercooler assembly would fit under the hood of the Si........

I figure it would make a rather good upgrade to the K20Z3 if adapted correctly.
