after reading this article and being absolutly shocked at how amazing all this techonolgy is and how close it is to production, the only thing that doesnt seem possible is to get every single pedestrian to wear a detector device so the cars can see where you are at all times. their gonna have to figure out how to detect all people without having people strap on some gps bug. and like some others have commented these noises, beeps, alarms, lights, vibrations, pulling and tugging, might get annoying if the system is that jumpy in its predictions into the future. but seriously folks how many of us are afraid of running someone over as opposed to being hit or hitting another vehicle? personally id like to see the stats on this pedestrian safety vs. reg automobile crashes.(not that i dont think this stuff is necessary.)

They are already able to detect people based on image processing and infrared cameras. That system has been available in Japanese Legend since past year, and you can have more information about it doing a search on "Intelligent Night Vision System".

The interesting thing about this ASV-3 is that vehicles are capable of echanging information. In that way, one vehicle that is seeing the pedestrian would broadcast the information about it to the vehicles around.

If a pedestrian cannot be seen by any vehicle, then there might be no danger, since pedestrian move generally slowly.
