So, we're heading into the storied, old Monte Carlo Grand Prix. For this year, apparently, the pits and track have been updated and shifted out to give the teams a proper pit area...anyone got any pictures or diagrams of the Monaco GP circuit changes?

Ahhh, such a beautiful place. I love this time of year. I'm just glad they finally put in some proper pits for teams. Can't wait for Saturday, hopefully we'll see Jenson in P1!

IMHO, I think this is more a Renault's track than BAR's. BAR is going to be up there in the first 6 positions but not in the pole, unfortunately.

Do you not remember last year? Jenson was on top of the sheets all weekend until his horrible crash. I won't be surprised one bit if he is on the pole. This is the race that Richards was expecting their first win of the season, so the factory knows something. Sure Renault should do pretty good here, but the B-A-R is going to be really strong.

Could this be the first double podium ever for B-A-R Honda?

sure it can be double podium ... hey guys I was a bit worried about Jenson's fitness ever since that crash. cauz he had 20 G forces acting on him. do u think he is on same fitness well as be4 the crash. also this carbon fibre in eye dillema. will this affect him and indirectly us?

Honda has a special 'Monaco spec' engine for this race. Apparently there are also some aero updates as the circuit is supposed to be high downforce low speed. According to reports from F1-Live.

Most likely a torquier engine to power out of the many slow areas. Max revs are not needed whatsoever in Monaco, 8 seconds is the longest at full throttle through the tunnel. Maybe the ECU is just a special program and not really any significant changes to the engine, this would make more sense to me.

Button has been cleared already the day after the GP in Barcelona, he went and saw an eye specialist. As far as the crash last year, well it didn't seem to bother him the remainder of last year and this year he is on the mark, albeit the tiny misfortune in qualifying almost a fortnight ago.

BAR needs to start attacking this 10 point Renault lead and can hopefully overcome that by the mid-point of the season. Ferrari is just unstoppable for the constructor's this year, unless total chaos breaks out in their camp. The driver's title is slowly going to MS, but it is not over yet still 130 points in the air. It will be great if both Button and Sato can finish the year out in the top 6 and the team finishing second overall. Still a real long way to go though and anything can happen in this crazy sport. Minardi may get backed by Coca-Cola and Pepsico at the same time and have a shit-load of finances to get the better yet still shitty Cosworth engine and do some massive aero improvements and fight the big boys. Whatever?!?! Forgive my rambling, but anything is possible...

Chris

Iím agree with you and Iím hoping that we can win; this is something that Iím waiting for some time now.
But in Monaco you need an excellent balance in your car, and to me, Renault had a little bit of advantage over BAR. Besides that, in Monaco you need to be nice with the tyres, have a good race strategy and be fast on the pit stops and Renault is still better than us.
As I said, I hope we can win, but Iím targeting Indy or Canada for the first win of the season in where the power of engine is more important, and Honda has the advantage.
About the double podium finish. Taku make mistakes too often and as you know, Monaco is the place where you can't make mistakes. Finger cross!!!!!

Too often? Come on give him more credit than that, he has driven the car just fine this year, his off in Malaysia in qualifying was due to just coming in a little off line and hitting the notorius dip in the turn, his off with Jenson following was just a minor misfortune on his part, his collision with Ralf, well that was Ralf just being Ralf, and in my eyes completely his fault leaving Sato nowhere to go. If it wasn't for the retirements he would of scored in 4 of the 5 races this year.

Please don't count his last trip at Monaco, I sitll blame that shunt on the team, they told him to move over while in the tunnel to let Fisi by, well that is definitely the wrong place to move over, as it is way too dusty off-line and he lost it, I don't fault him on that. As he was doing what the team told him to do.

Monaco should be a good test of BAR006 in high downforce configuration. If I remember correctly, GW was criticised during his time at Williams for not producing efficient aero for high downforce tracks.

Sato's comments after recent test at Paul Ricard indicate that the car is very stable in high df config. Looks like the 006 is a bit sensitive to crosswinds etc, hopefully this is not a factor at Monaco.

I understand BAR have also had a successful wet test with the Michelin tyres. Full wet conditions may be the only thing that upsets the Ferrari steamroller in 2004.

yep i agree.. its unfair to say that Taku "makes mistakes too often".
Followin' reports from f1-racing.net however, it seems that Button is one of the main contenders to replace Schumi in the hot seat when Schumi decides that he's had enough of it. I dunno.. what's yer take on this? Cus Ross Brown and Ferrari could just make an offer so good that Button could not resist.

Apparently Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne are set to leave Ferrari at the same time as when MS retires. Having seen Ferrari at its worst, I'm not sure it will do JB any good going there post Schumi.

I do think Takuma makes mistakes too often. Lets not forget he made a mistake at Bahrain as well, which was totally his fault and no one else. That resulted in Jenson passing Taku, and Taku needing a new front wing. At Sepang he also spun during the race, which may have contributed to his retirement a few laps from the end. Going into the gravel trap causes very violent vibrations, and gets dirt all into the radiator pods.

Mistakes aside, I also hope he can increase his qualifying and race pace to Jenson's level soon. Imagine what someone like Kimi Raikkonen could do in Takuma's seat.

Please donít misunderstand me, Taku is doing well so far, and I'm hoping he make a great race, but he needs to improve his driving and basically as Richards said, he needs to drive not overdrive the car.
When you overdrive the car, apart from taking the risk of spun the car you create additional stress to the mechanical parts with the consequence of a possible retirement. Taku had the record of crashing the car in the last two visits to Monaco, including the one that he damages a classic Lotus 49B in a historic race.

I do not think Renault has an advantage over us on this track at all. From all the onboard shots I've seen this year, the BAR seems to be a much better hanlder thant the Renault. They have three distinct advantages over us, "lauch control", reliability and pit stops. As for the pace of the car I feel we are ahead of them.

Sato lacks seat time. I dont think he makes too many mistakes I just want his pace and consistency to improve. He messes up because he is trying not because he is scared. I suspect that he may be the revelation of the season as far as drivers are concerned.

I wont predict anything but winning this race may take a little luck. Then again winning any race with the BS/Ferrari/MS combination may take a little luck.

The times are looking pretty good though. If we get qualifying on point as well as the pits I feel we should have both drivers in great shape for top six positions and maybe one on the podium. Only Ferrari is looking better but whats new.
