spring/damper rates for performance package? [View News Item]    (Score: 1, Normal) 07-13-2002 00:18

does anyone know the spring rates/damper rates for the "performance package suspension" for the rsx-s? is it a type-r one?

fyi, i got the following specs for the DC5-R suspension (from hyper rev). my japanese reading skills is not like how it was during college, so i be in err at some point. here it is:

Progressive Spring Rate (kgf/mm) Front = 2.8~4.6
Rear = 3.0-8.0

Damper Rate (kgf @ .3m/s)
Bound = 168 (F) 187 (R)
Rebound = 80 (F) 110(R)

Damper Mount Bushings (kgf/mm) = 400

does anyone know if the "new" sport tuned suspension has similar #'s?one would think, honda would be using the same tuned suspension from the type r (less r&d).

if acura can sell the performance package as piecemeal rather than the whole shbang i would only consider the wheel/tire, rotors and suspension portion, similar to how TRD does it....i think either way, honda/acura will be making a killing in the labor department...

any thoughts?

We weren't given any numbers but we were told that the tuning was in between the Type S and Type R in terms of stiffness. I haven't driven a Type R, but the FP package is a noticeable improvement over the Type S. In the slalom runs we were doing it was very competitive with King's Mugen car, which had a LOT more than $4800 in upgrades. In fact all the journalists (except me) were quicker through the slalom in the FP car than they were in the Mugen RSX. I was the only exception and managed to set the best slalom time of the day (overall :) driving the King car. I only made one pass in the FP car because I was limited in time. I think with another run in it I could have come close to the Mugen car too.

I am going to try to get more specifics next week with respect to spring rates and weight totals.
