3 laps to go two leading hondas going into the pits....they were gambling, and gamble almost paid off.
but...chevys were faster for the whole race and deseved the win.
there was a lot of strange crashes during the race.

The cars look like from the Lola/Reynard CART days. Look much better without the airbox.

It looks like it would have been better if those Hondas would have stayed out there and tried to finish...hoping that maybe the fuel-consumption computer was off slightly. Maybe one of them could have made it home on fumes.

Seems more honorable to lose on the track (as you run out of fuel) than to lose in the pits. Perhaps it was a safety issue, becoming a hazard on the track with a dead engine.

Working on a blog post, but am just too disgusted by what Indycar did to the race with the new aerokits.

Interesting fact: The average Honda advanced 5.2 places during the race. The average Chevy dropped 7 spots.

The aerokits turned it into NASCAR at a 1.5 mile track(only one groove and can only pass during restarts).

Which just meant Qualifying was never more important, which Chevy won, comprehensively.

At least the engines weren’t blowing their tops like they were last year!

Fuel in the crankcases? One wonders!

That was one of the most boring Indy 500s in recent memory. The Indy 500 is never known for lots of passing, but with the DW12 chassis they could at least draft and pass more. With the new chassis they could only pass on restarts and that was it. Total snooze fest.

Perhaps Indycar should look to the Indy Lights for inspiration. Yes they are a lot slower but the Freedom 100 last Friday was a hell of a show, as it is every year. There were only 8 cars in the field, but there were over 100 passes in only a 40 lap race. They were drafting and passing like crazy, running 2-3 wide, even passing in the corners. Very exciting stuff.
