There must be a huge gain in fuel economy for them to shrink the gas tank that much.

That would be pretty awesome but I'm wondering if the smaller tank is more likely due to relocation of the battery pack?

The hybrid car has an even smaller tank.

I don't think Honda is going to compromise the range of the vehicle because that is a rather important metric in the US, so my guess is that, as others have said, you'll see significant FE improvements across the board.

Whether they will or not totally compensate for the tank reduction I don't know, but it shouldn't be something noticeable by the final customer.

Our iMMD Accords, with their 14 gallon tanks, routinely would go 560+ miles per tank on the open Interstate at 80 mph. Slowing down a little bit to 76 mph would easily stretch it to over 600 miles!

But those were running on very efficient Atkinson 2 liter generator/motors.

I'd expect the 2.0T has to have at the very least a 400 mile range.

A 3 gallon drop seems it'll take away the highway range. I look forward to seeing their estimate.

I'm about to receive my 2017 HAH and will ask for some driving tips again for getting over 50mpg. My round trip to work will be just over 4 miles on city streets and wonder if I can go electric only.

I noticed that right away too. I don't know that I am confident that the 2.0T is going to beat the J35 that much in real world driving, and that 2.2 gallons adds up to almost 100 miles in real world highway driving with a J35. So either it will outperform it that much, or it will take a hit on range. Given that the V6 can easily top 500 miles without breaking a sweat, I don't know how critical that will be since most people will have to pee more often than that anyway.
