Our dealer gave us a new RDX Tech with 10 miles on the odometer to drive for a few days.

I have to say I'm very impressed. It may lack some of the luxury features of its bigger brother MDX but it's a fantastic small SUV.

I first noticed the steering wheel: thickly wrapped in butter-smooth leather. The seats feel the same way. Their leather has an ultra smooth finish (without being slick) and the cushions are well padded. I could see one being very comfortable on a long road trip.

I forgot just how good the 6AT/J35 combo is. While it's no rocket sled, acceleration is above average for its class. Steering and turn-in are sharp. It soaks up road imperfections really well and is actually a lot of fun to drive. It drives smaller than it is -- or should I say, it drives like a car lower to the ground than it is.

From the exterior, the vehicle has a lot of presence without being overly showy. It has the best iteration of the Acura shield and the Jewel Eyes give it enough bling to hold interest.

If we didn't need a larger vehicle I would definitely put the RDX on my short list. I can imagine owners of this gen are plenty happy with their purchase.

My wife isn't parting with her '13 RDX Tech. "Ever!" Unless my son, who has expressed interest, convinces his mother to part with it. We would have used it for our annual Texas to Canada trip but she's still spooked about the airbag situation. (So we crammed everything, cat included, into our TLX instead.) I agree with your assessment, behind the market or not.

Funny to read this entry from me. My son needed it. She parted with it. But she couldn't stray from the fold. She loves the '17 even more.
