It looks like an HR-V's Chinese knock-off.

CDX to HR-V is like this one to Hyundai Santa Fe

I'm sorry to say that it does look cheap. Nothing about the new diamond grille says luxury. It look cheap AND dated - not to mention the faux mesh inserts that surround the fog lights is horrible.

Come on now Acura, not even Honda can get away with this cheap material these days with premium designs coming from Mazda and now the American makes... Acura certainly cant get away with it. If this is the direction Acura is going in I don't think it will be enough to turn things around.

That new grill is not attractive or luxurious looking at all and does not even deviate much from the beak, it is actually just as in your face ugly and odd as the original beak compared to the current toned down beak which is much better. This is nothing but lipstick on a pig, same basic smart luxury Honda+ vehicles but just a different beak and styling gimmicks, not going to cut it in the luxury market. They have not learned anything and are not trying. I really hope they don't bring this sub entry level Honda competitive embarrassment to the states or other markets

It does have an air of "cheapness" to it and....
I've only got two words for this new grille from Acura..."hot mess".
I cannot believe this is what they came up with to replace the dreaded beak. Then again, I guess I CAN belive it based on Acura's track record when it comes to design since the introduction of that ghastly Advance Sedan Concept some years ago.

Acura design is badly in need of some new blood. I want them to succeed, but damn....I hope they rapidly revise this new grille on the next vehicle that is due for an overhaul.

The thing that looks wrong to me about the grill is that it's a design that the whole front end has to be designed around rather than the grill being sculpted to mesh with the front end. Other than that, it still looks better than the RDX and MDX that people like and buy.

Sometimes I feel there is a level of over doing it with comments about Acuras like, "It's U-G-L-Y! Terrible! Disastrous! Disgusting! A monstrosity!! Burn it with fire!!!" (just to name a few) just because it's an Acura and the state of the brand is one that's unloved.

Well I don't think it's ugly & disgusting.... It just looks cheap for me, if it wears a Chevrolet badge I would comment differently, it might be the best Chevy crossover, LOL. But if Acura really wants to step-up their image, especially to compete with the German brands & Lexus, the design direction of the CDX is a wrong first step.

But it really depends if they are serious or not in order to step up their design. If we go just by comparisons, everything's always relative, we can see the CDX as a far more upscale & luxurious, compared with this.... for sure.

Cheaper than this?

I chalk a lot of the strong dislike up to bad first impressions (Honda/Acura's fault) because this compact is a step up from the MDX/RDX in terms of exterior design.

I for one will not mince words when it comes to Acura. When Acura makes asinine decisions like "hiding exhaust finishes", I will say it is an asinine dicision. When they design a stupid-looking beak and stick it on all their models, I will say so. This new grille is not aesthetically pleasing in the least. It does not say luxury. It is quite simply a mess. It is a wasted opportunity to reboot the brand styling wise. They need to go back to the drawing board and they need to hear it.

Speaking of fog lights, I like the look of the new XC 90 but I just seen one this morning and one of the fog lights was out, a led fog like in a 1 year old vehicle should not be blown and it wasn't cracked either. That is my concern with Volvo now that they are bringing out these products under Geely.

I wouldn't say that's unusual as I've recently seen this 'burnout' on a local RLX and other makes as well. Seems like a random phenomenon.

Neal, I've never seen it on a new Acura product, hell even older models with HID seem to be working, but who knows if they were replaced. You are probably right which would come down to the bulb supplier rather than an electrical problem I guess. It's just that I see premature bulb blown often on Audi for example and now the XC 90 today, sad part about is the owners probably don't even know.

fog might not be out but was on temporarily on as the "cornering" light. I know my previous MB turned on the fogs on 1 side if I turn/signal. That's been replaced within the headlight housing now that there's no longer dedicated fogs. in Acura's case, I don't even think they offer adaptive or any "intelligent" lights so it was probably burnt out. lol

I knew the tail lights on the CRV mule looked familiar!

Also while I thought the pre-MMC MDX looked masculine and elegant, the first thing that came to mind seeing the stumpy white car in the photos above was "Suzuki Vitara"...

The design dilemma, one man's joy is another man's anguish.

I much prefer stylish form, with elegant and simple lines over a miss mash of creases and folds. Mind you it means the detailing becomes super important.

My brother has the current BMW X5, in white, and I find it fugly and dumpy. Still they sell 'em pretty quickly, and he likes it. Each to their own. :)

Yea, well, just because BMW and Volvo are doing it doesn't make it any more attractive or acceptable. And since when does the luxury industry take styling ques from Volvo? While it doesn't look good on the Bimmer either, (not saying it's right but) in the eyes of the general public, BMW can get away with a lot more sins than Acura or Volvo. Furthermore, BMW still did a better job on execution than what Acura did. The rectangular shape of the CDX's LED fogs look odd and like an afterthought in that big void.

If it's any consolation, the live photos from the reveal do look better though.
