If they get the PHEV priced right, it could be a serious competitor to the new Chevy Volt. Honda did say this was the volume version, and that suggest they are going to price it to be attractive. The Volt starts at $33K.

The last (very low volume) Accord PHEV was $40K so I doubt it will be cheaper than that despite it was loaded. Certainly since this has a larger battery.

I'd be surprised if this would be a true volume model given Honda's past track record but we'll see.

The Volt will be tough to match. So far we know only that the Volt can go 13 miles further on its batteries. Starting with that disadvantage, how will the Clarity Plug-In compete with the Volt on the following key factors?

Price (Volt starts at $33,170)
Total gas+electric range (Volt can go 420 miles)
Passenger accommodations (2016 Volt seats 5)
Cargo accommodations (Volt has hatch and folding rear seats)
Appearance (a matter of taste--I'm not in love with the Clarity's looks)
