...what about street presence? What does Acura currently have that is a desirable product or offers a level of performance vs the established competition? What good is the push in motorsports if it doesn't trickle down to the production cars?

Obviously, it is pretty well known that I agree with the street product, but as for promoting the NSX and (hopefully) the future status of Acura, they are doing the right thing.

First, the NSX only launches once per generation, and frankly, Honda NEEDS to make more light of their motorsports heritage. When it comes to racing pedigree, there are only really 3 companies that can stand equal to Honda in car racing, which are Porsche, Ferrari and BMW. When it comes to TOTAL racing success, there isn't a company on earth that can claim the heritage Honda can.

In fact, one of Honda's biggest marketing faux pas in the past has been to not really highlight their racing programs the way they should.

You will always hear a Porsche or Ferrari or BMW owner brag about how successful their brand is in racing, but people still think Honda only makes 100HP Civics. Why? Partly because those are the only products that get the attention they deserve.

I get Honda's philosophy of speak softly and carry a big stick, and let the results speak for themselves, but honestly, they need to beat their drum a little bit.

There is exactly one company on earth that has absolutely and unquestionably dominated every form of motorsport they have ever entered in cars and motorcycles, and it isn't a "pedigreed" European brand.

By playing on their racing, it builds credibility for cars like the NSX, and hopefully, a not sucky future Acura lineup.

Great point B18.
Acura needs to start building cars that have some passion (the NSX is not even a drop in that bucket) and that regular people want to buy. When they hid the exhaust outlets, that spoke volumes about the lack of passion within this company. They need to bring in somebody who wants to stir things up and independently of Honda when possible!
