Reports surfacing today claims this new CR-Z will get the CTR 2.0L T motor. If so, this thing would be a blast.

this is the same stuff 'Rolledansx' posted here a few days back. He got the info from the Japanese mags and before he posted it here sent me the same info, so I guess all the Japanese mags have heard the same things.

The thing about the Road & Track info which is a bit confusing is that they're saying it won't appear "onsale" for 3 years

To me it would make sense for Honda to reveal something at this year's Tokyo motor show (concept? Prototype?) and then put the car onsale next year in Japan, purely based on the already long cycle of the current CR-Z. Now in the US we may have to wait as long as the '18 model year to get this car, but that would mean an onsale date some time in 2017. Honestly, even that seems about a year too late but maybe it is the case. Hopefully we'll learn more in the near future.

If they're going to completely change the formula for the CR-Z (which I still maintain is dumb) like this then maybe a Model Year without the CR-Z is in order - thus the long wait time...

Rolleda also said like a few weeks ago that the CTR was next year for America.

So maybe we will get both the CRZ and the CTR then...?

The CR-Z would start with the 1.5T and has the same price as now ($20-22K) with the CR-Z Type-R above it ($26-28K?) with the detuned 2.0T that isn't quite as technical and bonkers as the Euro Type-R.

Then the Civic has the Civic Si (with a more powerful 1.5T (?) that slots above the CR-Z ($23-25K)) but below the CR-Z Type-R) and the Civic Type-R is a full-on bonkers 305 hp technical track car that slots above everything ($30K+)...?

Especially if they are dropping the Civic coupe then having a more coupe-like option with the CR-Z makes some sense I think.

Honda would then suddenly have all sorts of sporty options. I daresay most of us on TOV would be happy with the above happening but it would be quite a big shift for Honda to suddenly have so many "sporty" options...at least compared to the last however many years. Right now the only sporty option Honda has above 200 hp and below $30K is the Si.

I'm also thinking there will be two variants of both the civic and cr-z and/or acura coupe; a 1.5t / 220hp Si and 2.0t 300hp Type-R/S. Looking forward to see the specs of the USDM cars!
