Here's the new $79,990, 650 horsepower Z06 lapping the Nurburgring. This bad boy puts the high dollar spread on notice, and maybe the future $150,000? NSX, too.

I think Honda's aim with the NSX is to change handling perceptions with the e-sh-awd and its power delivery. They must be otherwise what's taking so long....

But yes, Corvette is putting a lot of high dollar Marques to shame, but you pay for exclusivity....

that's the base price. I'm sure with all the options to make that particular car perform at the Nurburgring is over 100k. But still, great bang for your buck

Tried too hard imitating other fast cars? Too bad.

Proof that the Chevy was trying too hard to imitate?

Lol.

Yeah, it's probably worth mentioning that the ring got a bit wet and the yellow one crashed... they brought back out a blue one...

Race cars crash and burn all the time. Its the hallmark of an automaker actually trying to achieve something. You can't win if you don't compete. Chevy competes and its an underdog story people that just eat up.

Remember the NSX fire a few months ago? That was the first time in years Honda had a car to really hash it out with. A chance to come back and learn something in each step of the way.

I'm not sure if they closed the ring specifically to test the Z06, but if it was during an industry test pool or public tourist drive day, then it's by no means a "race car" as it's required to be plated and road legal. The Nurburgring Nordschleife IS a one way toll road, not a race track.

I don't know the specifics of that day, but that is beside the point.

Semantics and technicalities be damned. The Z06 and Z28 are extremely close to being off the lot race cars, each has a long history in racing and specifically built for racing with some of the same components/engine/suspension/brakes etc. the professionals use. For all intents and purposes they are road legal race cars.

Do they push the envelope of technology or do they just use the most expensive ad-ons available to make them this way?

It doesn't really matter whether or not you believe the "race car for the street" marketing schtick (or actually, you know, LOOKED at a race car recently and realize that it's a completely different world), but in this case the driver simply lost control.
