how much difference do new/upgraded spark plugs and wires make? anything noticeable to a stock car, or do they help with later add-ons?

and what about this other (small) stuff - i was reading a guys mod list - like a high pressure radiator cap or magnetic oil cover? are these things necessary, or just to make the engine look better, or what? waste of money in terms of actual performance?

I've used the Bosch Platiunum 4s in my cars. 91 Civc and 91 Integra GS. I've noticed it feels like there is more torgue available low end, nothing huge, but quite noticeable. I'd recommend them. Never messed with the wires. Everything else on my cars was stock.

Depends. How old are your current plugs and wires?

The finest performance plugs out there are Iridium (like Denso). They're a bit pricier than typical plugs, but should net a couple more HP on the dyno. As for wires, unless they're old, you probably won't gain much of anything. Nice wires are Magnecor KV-85.

Magnetic drain plugs don't help too much on a Honda I don't think since the engine parts are non-ferrous (aluminum). A high pressure radiator cap won't really do anything. It will raise the boiling point of the coolant by a few degrees, but you shouldn't get to that heat point anyway.

On the newer civics, Honda puts platinum plugs in, pretty high quality I would assume since they don't recommend replacing them until 110k miles...

I couldn't tell you about HP increase. I'm not a mechanic but the only way I can figgure you'd get more power is to burn the fuel more efficiently but Honda engines are way efficient as is. Maybe a bigger spark?

I'm guessing wires could deliver less resistance and maybe a better spark but again I'm no mechanic, what do I know.

I think people do those little things to their car more for fun/hobbie than for performance.

on a stock car they make no difference. only time you might see an improvement is if your car has forced induction, or is set up to run on higher octane gas...

copper spark plugs are cheaper and tend to conduct electricity better than platinum spark plugs which last longer. any performance gains are marginal however, so personally i wouldn't bother with performance spark plugs/wires if all you are doing to your car is i/h/e and other basic bolt-on mods.
