Can't see a thread on this here so thought I would start one. I saw the movie last night and was hugely impressed. The acting of the 2 lead players (totally convincing as Hunt and Lauda), cinematography and sheer drama of the thing puts it right up there as a best movie of the year. I have a pretty good memory of the events, and feel some personal attachment - My parents home is in the shadows of Hesketh's estate and you can hear Silverstone if the wind is blowing the right way. And I have met Hesketh - his portrayal is very accurate too. All made this an extra treat. Sure there must be some invention in the narrative but hey it's not a documentary - in the main its a totally convincing retelling of a time when the F1 scene was far more exciting and dramatic than it is today. Fascinating to see all the 70s era cars. Both on and off the track. Even the 6 wheel Tyrell (Ken Tyrell was a neighbor at the time). But more than anyhting the movie is about the rivalry and contrasting life styles of Hunt and Lauda and this is where it really excels.

Some young wag on IMDB said after seeing the movie that when he grows up he'd like to be James Hunt...in 1976! I bet...

Just saw it today, excellent flick. Not as many racing scenes as I hope, but the story was fantastic.

Saw it last week and thought it was great. Even my wife liked it a lot. The cinematography was spectacular with camera angles we've only imagined before during the racing sequences.

The determination it must have taken Nicki Lauda to get back into a race car and compete 42 days after the inferno he was in, is truly amazing!

A very good movie, forgetting that it is about racing and cars. You add in those things and it is a Must-see for anyone who reads this forum.

We went to see this movie over the weekend. My wife who is a "tolerant" race fan (she's normally present while racing is on TV) enjoyed the movie. This period of Formula One is a little before my time. In North America I wonder if racing was even shown on TV back then? Other than the Indianapolis 500 I don't recall watching much racing in the 70s.

It was a wonderful period piece. They did an outstanding job with costumes and (from what I've heard) the limited amount of vintage race track available to film on.

I thought that the montage at the end of the film was especially well done. My wife and I were both amazed at the similarities between the actors and their real-life counterparts. It pains me to be watching the film in a theater with, at most, half a dozen other couples. This film deserves a wider audience. I read that last weekend's box office was only $10 million so it could struggle to make back it's estimated $38 million budget.

When I went to see the movie, my brother and I were the only younguns in there. There was maybe 10 other people in that theater all 40 and up.

I would assume that an international release would do much much better.

You're probably right in that. If few were watching F1 back in those days in NA, there might not be as many fans here to relive the moment.

There was a full theater when I saw it on opening Friday. I'll probably watch it again some time this week.

It looks like it did another $10 million this past weekend, bringing the total to 19 million. When discussing this with some friends they said it has an "Oscar feel" to it.
