I think the only reason you buy a '10-'12 over the new one is SH-AWD. Short of that the new one is better in every way and significantly so in terms of fuel efficiency.

If you get a good deal, go for it...we love our 2011. It is reliable, so far, but we only have 22k on it...bought with 11k. To your second question, I think most would consider it a "gas guzzler". I warned my wife before getting that it would use more gas than here CRV AND require premium. If you do a lot of city driving, you will probably not be too happy with your gas mileage. Combined or mostly highway, you will not be different than most big SUV's.

The one big thing I miss is it didn't come with the tech package, so just has the aux port...not USB. Wife doesn't care and it's her car, so... Also, there's no doubt the new MDX is very nice and probably better in most ways, but I honestly prefer the looks of the last gen. New one looks like a Q7, especially in the rear, and I'm not a fan.

Overall, we really like ours for the space, utility, features, etc. I'm not sure when they started making the FWD MDX, but perhaps look for one of them if you don't need SH-AWD. Also, there's always a used Pilot to look at...prob better on gas, no premium gas, and same utility...oh, and cheaper. Good luck!

Base MDX is 53,000 I believe in Canada.

A bit overpriced. I would take it for 50,000.

But man the MDX is a looker and is an amazing suv. Honda really came to play with the MDX this round. Now theres no point in getting the X5 unless only snob appeal.

Picard,
since you have been shopping for a SUV for at least 6 1/2 years, and are concerned about fuel economy, I would spend a few more Canadian bucks and buy the new 2014 with its VCM, 6 speed automatic and reduced weight. We are hearing about owners getting fuel mileage in the 23-24 m.p.g range with the 2014, compared to under 20 m.p.g. for the earlier models.

If the price is right, why not? Though the new one is more fuel efficient it would take you a deçade or more to recoup the price differential in fuel savings. As a guy that owned the previous, the changes are evolutionary. Reliability has been excellent. In 60k the only thing that broke in ours was the magnetic shocks.
