So was watching the Walking Dead and saw a commercial for the the 2013 Lincoln MKZ:

And was struck by the design, yes it is not perfect, and you can poopoo that it is a Lincoln how could I even think of Acura... but I thought to myself in regards to the RLX this shows where the RLX could have gone, I am not saying this specific design. I am saying more in terms of road presence, aggressive yet conservative design. This is a handsome car and would not blend into the background like the RLX.

Just thinking out loud.

Thinking out aloud was perhaps not a good idea? :)

Think to yourself which marques own this segment? Mercedes and BMW. So that gives you some idea of what this segment is looking for. And this ain't it.

Personally I think the RLX's design, as understated as it is, is a class or two above this effort. Which kinda puts the Germans in context I suppose?

Obviously I understand it is competing against Audi/BMW/Merc/Lexus. I have seen their designs they all have more road presence. My point was that the RLX needs to generate some attention, in fact I would argue it needs to be more adventurous in styling then the other competitors simply from the previous lack of interest in it and this has that but matches the older clientelle the RLX gets. I figured not showing a direct competitor and a line which needs an injection of a pulse would be more interesting to see the aggressive approach on a car which needed it from before.

Of course commenting about the RLX lack of styling is pointless, it is what it is.

Thank you for sharing your opinion but for me, the RLX has way more road presence than this Lincoln.

I have seen both of these in person, and the Lincoln looks well stitched together with some pretty cool styling elements that stand out quite a bit, and it didn't take 30 sets of headlamps to do it.

Brutus, I thought the exact same thing when I saw the new MKZ. What if the RLX looked similar to this. Whats funny is that I think the weakest part of the MKZ is the front end. It could use a bunch of LEDs, but other than that, especially on 19s, this car looks good.

The MKS's best view, from the rear quarter. The RLX best view is the opposite, from the from the front quarter.

Rear looks nice.

But I think there's not much they can do better about grill if they insist on the Lincoln "whale-grin" corporate look.

And this styling vein would have zero appeal to those considering one of the German 3. So what relevance does it have for the RLX?

Personlly I think the RLX is miles better as a design than this car, and most of you know what I think of the RLX's attempt! :D

I see these at the Lincoln dealership on my way home. They look terrible to me. When I saw one up close, I have to say it is the first car that made me gag. Give me Acura's Timeless RLX design any day. This like all of the "dynamic" styling will look even worse in three years. I guess if you don't plan to keep it, that ok.
