The front end styling is not as cohesive as the competition.

Nice but the shape of the lower air intake and a slight lining up of the top of the grille and headlamps is just too subtle i'm afraid...

Acura needs the chutzpah of the current gen TL (pre-MMC) but this time it just needs to be breathtakingly handsome as well as full of character.

I know this is a coupe - and you can't straight-up copy a competitor - but this Mercedes is what I think the style of the RLX should be. In fact, the grille outline is almost identical to Acura's. Just replace the giant 3-pointed star innards with the plenum. The sharp, silver techno-grille would actually look right at home on this vehicle.

The car even uses the center crease that Acura tried to make their signature for so long. Then there's the gloss-black roof with panoramic sunroof, which has become de rigueur in the luxury realm. (Not simply the small moonroof of the RLX, no different than my old '86 Accord LX-i.)

An interior with actual color for once; stylish wheels; sporty, low front end; it's even got Acura's fender bulge design (I can't think of the name of it)... but over the proper wheels.

Just add rear doors, and you've got the trendy 4-door-coupe body style. And as others have said, stick with the RL MMC rear end, which also carries the Acura signature crease.

Add Sport Hybrid SH-AWD with 7DCT and Bam!... you've got yourself a stand-out luxury competitor.

I just saw the RDX for the first time in person while it's moving... I think Acura shield+grill on the RDX looks better and well integrated.

Can you do a photochop integrating RDX-style shield+grill to RLX and slightly darken the "blades" below the "shield"?

I find the front to be OK overall; the back, however, is more in need of a little work to make it less bland IMHO:

The point I was trying to make is the Merc had more in common with the '05 RL, than the RLX has with the RL!

Completely agree that it could look better, it's not bad but for the money it should be gorgeous.

First step is to drop the stupid power plenum.

I think there is a reasonable argument that the current iteration of the power plenum grille on the RLX makes the car seem familiar, but perhaps not fresh or different enough from the look of the ILX, RDX, etc. I would like to see what the RLX looks like with an S-Class style grille. Maybe that's enough to make the front classier and different from the rest of the lineup. I think it's also ironic that the PP grille, which polarizes so many reviewers, now seems somewhat safe, compared to what Lexus has been able to achieve with the spindle grille.

Yes, Hondata, nice job. As long as you're taking requests, could you post up an image of the car with the grille lowered just as you have it here, but with no other changes? I've thought for a while that the front of the car would look significantly better with just the grille lowered, and I'd like to see it. (I can't 'shop worth a darn.) My theory is that (1) where the grille is located in real life, i.e., with the top of the grille above the top of the headlamps; plus (2) the elements of the grille "sweeping up" from the center to each side, combine to give the nose the impression of "lifting up" as opposed to being "planted" and purposeful.

Acura needs the chutzpah of the current gen TL (pre-MMC) but this time it just needs to be breathtakingly handsome as well as full of character.
You're asking for bold, jaw-dropping, unique styling from Acura? Might as well ask for a pet unicorn. ;-)
