I guess that means 0-100km/h in approx 6.1, which is not bad at all, very much Ok and quite enough! I would be happy (if I was in the market for such a large car)

Is the estimate number from C/D or from Acura? 5.9 sec acceleration is very healthy indeed. The Lexus LS 460 F-Sport 0-60 time is 5.2 with the burly V8, can the SH^2-AWD match it? Honda did boast the system achieves V8 acceleration time.

As is the car is good enough, but the RLX Hybrid will be the key. Acura should call it the Grand Hybrid Sedan or some crazy marketing spin.

Absolutely correct. This car is still too slow to impress anyone. Having owned the previous version, I hope this one is more tossable, quieter and has better brakes. The biggest demerits of the previous version was that the power was underwhelming the ride wasnt luxurious and that though SHAWD made the car handle better it really didnt make it much fun to drive since jamming the accelerator while taking a curve isnt a very natural way to drive day to day. Ill wait till I can drive one.

The big question is, will it sell??

I like the amount of technology that is in it, but the overall design (interior and exterior) leave a lot to be desired. The exterior is very understated and borderline boring. I like the Jewel Eye lights, but the rest of the front end is so generic.

The interior is not cohesive at all. It's very busy with many curves and color combinations. It's same ol' Acura if you ask me because it is too much like a Honda. Not enough to differentiate between an Accord.

So, is this car a disappointment or is the Accord an over achiever? I say the latter.

Those are just estimates from Car and Driver, not actual figures. I'd wait for road tests before judging.

With that said, assuming 0-60mph in 5.9s and 1/4 mile in 14.5s, that would be on par with most other ~300hp level competitors, if not a tiny bit slower.

I think the RLX should match the Accord's numbers (0-60mph 5.6s and 1/4 mile in 14.1s) and those numbers would be highly competitive.

That's how I take my off ramps and I love it! Of course I end up chickening out and never feel all the potential, but I love seeing the cars behind me get left in the dust.

Did that once, back in '06, on a race track, and it was fun to see mid level race cars running wide of the line, as they tried to hold onto the tail of the Legend! At the time my thoughts were WOW, this car can handle! Up to a point.

This is my hand timed run on the dragstrip. Keep in mind that there are 4 guys in the car so its quite a bit heavier than a typical C&D test (driver and test equipment). Also seem to be "slightly" traction limited... LOL. But I did like how the Traction Control didn't bog down the engine.

Not fast but very much Ok. Too bad it looks like a Hyundai trying to be sober enough for the Chinese government :-)

M-Sport BMW or royal RLX anyone? Not to make it unfair you can put sport and wood trim stickers on the RLX in true Honda fashion.

I think these numbers are plenty good for the intended buyers that RLX is targeting. Keep in mind this is the base RLX power package, and I seriously doubt someone shopping at this tier is going to hinge their buying decision on few tenth of a second difference in 0-60 time.

Here are Edmunds #'s for the V6 6AT Accord.

0-30: 2.5
0-45: 4.1
0-60: 6.1
0-60 with 1 ft rollout: 5.7
0-75: 8.6
1/4 mile: 14.4 @ 98.1

Braking
30-0: 33
60-0: 128

Handling
Slalom: 63.5
Skidpad: 0.82

Surprising that the Accord, with 30mm narrower tires, gets off the line harder. The 1/4 mile trap speeds would indicate that the RL is making about 8-9% more power at the wheels. Call it 265 whp on Jeff's local dynojet. However, the RL is running tighter gear ratios - up to 10% tighter in 2nd-4th. That would help acceleration notably, so power might be a bit lower. I'd _guess_ that the actual test will show 255-260 whp on Jeff's local dynojet. Not quite as underrated as the Accord 6AT, but still solid. If it makes more, even better.

By comparison, the twin turbo N55 from BMW usually puts down about 270-275 whp with an auto and it is very underrated (although not as much as the old N54 was, and the new N55 seems very susceptible to fuel quality and temp changes too).

Inertia mate :)

Also perhaps the softer suspension overcomes the longer wheelbase advantage the RLX would have.

It's interesting to see Edmunds got a trap speed of 98mph in the Accord V6 while others like C&D and MT are getting 100+mph.

I think we might see ~100mph in the RLX from the other magazines.

It's also interesting to see that the RLX has a noticeably higher trap speed than the 535i according to Edmunds (97mph vs 95mph).

We know that the Accord V6 comes with 17" rims, while the RLX model that was tested had 19" wheels. Perhaps this could slow the RLX a bit.
