With only 11.5 to 1 compression ratio, thats low for a Direct Injection NA engine.

The whole point of DI is to get more work per every intake charge because of the cooling effect of fuel evaperating in the combustion chamber so you can raise the combustion ratio.

Most are from 12.0-1 to 12.5-1 with mazda 14.0-1

With that lower combustion ratio equals lower efficiency(lower MPG)but less stress on the engine
means it will last longer.

Now if this engine is rated to burn 87 Octane then this all goes out the door...87 Octane needs lower compression ratio
and that leads to lower MPG.

So this only works if it is rated for 91 Octane.

Both the 2.0L and 2.5L DI engines of the U.S.-market MY14 Mazda CX-5 run 13.0:1 compression ratios and regular unleaded, that gas recommendation per the EPA and a Mazda USA web site.

If you have studies showing higher compression compromises engine reliability, please point to them.

There are many detractors pestering Honda to add direct injection... now they did and let's see if durability will live up to the new Acura tagline:
