Prelude (n.)

An action or event serving as an introduction to something more important.

It would be wise for Honda to resurrect this name. Looking at past generations the Prelude marque actually had meaning & significance for Honda brand in the U.S. The prelude platform served as a Honda performance flagship to introduce cutting edge technologies and sell it at the price that the masses can afford.

Here's what I can think of in my head:

3rd gen prelude:
- Introduced race-inspired all-wheel double wishbone and mechanical all-wheel steeting (AWS) for the masses... spanked most high-end sports cars (double the 'lude's price) in stalom for its era.

4th gen prelude:
- Electric/computer controlled rear wheel steetring
- VTEC

5th gen prelude
- Torque vectoring front wheel drive... forerunner to the SH-AWD seen in Acura flagship and sports sedan (RL/MDX/TL)

The NSX served the same purpose as prelude but it's exclusively for the rich and 1% among us.

NOTE: I'm speaking from a North American market (U.S.) perspective.

I have thought about this as well & do wish that Honda would bring the Prelude as RWD coupe to compete with the FRS/BRZ, however, with as expensive as this thing will probably be & with no back seat, it might be more of a 370z fighter.

I say let the Prelude rest. Honda should produce an S2000 roadster/coupe with 2 levels of performance. The base would be coupe only and would compete with the ToyoBaru. The higher performing coupe/roadster would compete with the Z4, Boxster and 370z.

Base car would have a K22 with 225hp. The higher performing model would of course have to be packing at least 320hp but I'm not sure by what.

Nah, let the S2000 line continue to compete vs much more expensive cars, like it used to. Create something else to compete for the masses.

The only problem with competing against the 370z is that Nissan has already announced/making plans on making the next Z smaller, something closer to its roots from the Datsun version back in the '70s. There's a video on Youtube with Jay Leno speaking with the head designer about the next gen Z.

IMO a Prelude should be based on Accord's platform...just like the previous Preludes.

Make a sub-variant of Accord coupe called Accord Prelude

Take a current 9th generation Accord coupe V6/6MT and just do simple add-ons to the following to make a credible, affordable Honda flagship without the associated costs of creating another platform:

- Add mechanical SH-AWD (it's time for this still-advanced 8 yr/old tech to trickle down to Honda brand in U.S.)
- Add P-AWS all wheel steer.
- Fine-tune the suspension.

That's exactly the problem; with today's nannying ACE protection, you'd end up with yet another high-cowled, sightless McP-strutted barge of a car, which would be a travesty of real Preludes.

Look @ the CR-Z as an example of the sort of abortion it could be.

a downgraded version of the e-NSX engine would do it.
