Speedometer adjustable?    (Score: 1, Normal) 06-08-2003 23:01

I've seen several threads in these forums that agree that Honda Speedos are often 5 - 10% fast. I had already figured that out for myself. My civic goes 75 when it says it's going 80. Oddly enough, in all of those posts, nobody mentioned whether that problem can be fixed.

Does anyone know if the speedo can be calibrated? I'd really like to be able to know how fast I'm going without having to do math. Also, if it can be calibrated, is that a dealer job, or can a do-it-yourselfer handle it?

Thanks in advance.

This really bugs me. It seems stupid that I look at my speedometer and it tells me that I'm going 5-10% faster than I really am. I have been pretty satisfied with Honda, but this seems to me like a lack of attention to detail.

Does this mean that people spend thousands of dollars on engine mods but are perfectly willing to let their speedometer lie to them about their speed?

Sorry to disapoint you.
but like I said thats what
the ministry of transportation
told me a my shop. they also
allow it because of police radars
they can give a 5-10% difference
in speed.look at like this, the car
you drove and the car you tested
your speed it could be out the 5-10%
abd yours could be fine.
