Weird issues after maintenance/repair HELP    (Score: 1, Normal) 08-29-2011 01:26

Hi guys, I have a 2002 RL with navi and have come across two strange issues which I need help on.

Issue number one, I replaced the ac condenser after determining that the original one was bad, it had signs of leakage and had previously leaked out after being recharged. The issue is that now after replacing the ac condenser with a new non oem one from kragen/oreilly auto parts, ac cooling is not as cold as it previously was. I have to set the temp all the way down on a hot day in order for it to be cool. Ac has original 1.5 pounds of coolant, compressor is pushing correctly and pressure is correct on both the low and high ends of the lines but STILL ONLY COOL, not cold air. WTF!?

Second issue, after jacking up the front of the car to change the oil then setting the car back on the ground and later driving, the car feels like the front struts are blown. The car drove perfectly with proper dampening previous to jacking up the car, then seems like all of a sudden the front of the car is bouncing like a Honda with cut springs, or a low rider to put things in perspective. Again, WTF!?

Car only has 107k miles on it, please anyone have any ideas on what could be causing these issues? I really appreciate any ideas/suggestions you guys may have.

Thanks!

On your A/C problem...the problem is the non-Honda condenser. I had the exact same thing happen on my 2009 V6 Accord after a body shop used a non-Honda condenser during some body repair.

I went to a dedicated Honda/Acura repair shop later, and they told me that the size of the orifices in the condenser are critical...and are too big (not too small) in the non-Honda part. This lets the gas flow through too fast to be able to surrender its heat. It seems counter-intuitive, but it's apparently true.

That non-Honda part later failed, I went back to this repair shop and had them install the genuine Honda condenser, and the A/C worked like it did when new.

The sad thing was, there was really only a tiny savings between the Honda part and the aftermarket part. Certainly not worth the aggravation.

I have no suggestions on your suspension problem.

I take it you used the correct jacking points & have not twisted the frame?

Check the springs haven't become dislodged, or the dampers aren't suddenly leaking or an ARB drop link didn't snap when it was jacked.

The frame is most likely fine, but you will commonly see this problem on shocks/struts that are aged internally, and basically hyper-extend when the wheels hang and hose the internals.
