Kosuke Matsuura
BAR Honda have offered Kosuke Matsuura, runner-up in this year's German Formula 3 Championship, the opportunity to test with the team in Jerez next month. The 23-year-old Japanese driver will join the test on 15 December, the final day of a three-day programme at the Spanish circuit.

Kosuke Matsuura graduated from the Suzuka Racing School Formula (SRS-F), part of Honda's driver development programme, in 1999, and became champion of the Formula Dream series (FD) the following year. He gained a scholarship from Formula Dream in 2001, and with the help of the ARTA project run by ex-Formula One driver Aguri Suzuki, participated in the German Formula 3 championship for the Italian PREMA team. In 2002, his second year in the series, Matsuura was in the running for the drivers' championship until losing out in the last race of the season.

B.A.R's driver development programme has previously given talented young stars like Takuma Sato the opportunity to hone their skills in preparation for a Formula One drive. Honda have also created and developed both the Suzuka Racing School Formula and Formula Dream to discover and nurture new driving talent capable of competing in the world's leading category.

David Richards, B.A.R Team Principal, commented: "Kosuke is an extremely confident young talent and we congratulate him on his achievements this year. We are delighted to offer him this opportunity to experience Formula One technology and we look forward to seeing him in a BAR004 next month. Kosuke's test also sees greater co-operation between B.A.R and Honda's respective driver development programmes, which is a key element of our long-term partnership.

Yasuhiro Wada, General Manager, Honda's Motor Sport Division commented: "I applaud Kosuke Matsuura on his efforts in German Formula 3 over the last two years, and am very pleased that he will be participating in a Formula One test. I'd like to continue to strengthen our international links to enable graduates from our driver development programmes, such as Takuma Sato and Kosuke Matsuura, to perform on world motor sport's biggest stage."
