Haha that's pretty much the story with all racing. So with developing the bikes in house I've heard it mentioned in some circles that maybe down the line part of the idea is to be able to offer an American Honda kit to privateers from you guys in order to have platform to race superbike with. Is that something you're looking at down the line?

That doesn't happen in our department. Obviously there's somebody at a higher level that sees the big overview but I'm sure that is what we wanna achieve. We want as many Hondas out there as possible, You know we look and see how many GSX-R's are out there and how easy they are to modify and say, ‘that needs to be us not them'. So yeah, part of the idea is to showcase the parts and what we are capable of making here in America. And down the road when we have something that is reliable enough to put the Honda stamp on it and get it out there, we'd like to offer a base package so that someone can buy a CBR1000, buy this base kit, and they can go clean up in WERA/CCS so they can come to a national and make a good showing.

I would be willing to bet that I could give a lot of guys the exact same bike as Miguel but chances are they're not gonna go out and beat Miguel. But they can at least say ‘Hey, I've got a bike that's as good as his'

So then they can say it's the riding not the bike.

When you watch ‘em go around the race track and you tell me. Its easy to see the difference between the top six and everybody else. They're the guys that are willing to hang it out and push hard.

Closing in here, I know the big cost of racing is not so much the actual part its usually all the things you had to do to getting to that part at that spec. How much do the bikes cost in parts for the 600 or the 1000?

I think you could reasonably duplicate one of our 600's for probably about $50,000, maybe a little bit more. But we've done all these tire tests and there was a big thing a few years back, "Oh, you've got eight tires to try and we only got three." Ok, I'll tell you what. You can go through all eight and sort through them and come up with three good ones we offer everybody else. So you can use your time, your bikes, and your resources to find the five bad ones.

We're on our probably sixth or seventh generation cylinder head. Ok. We're down to our best one. If we're gonna offer a kit, we're not gonna offer them the first one we've done. Well, do they wanna incur the costs for those first six cylinder heads to be made and tested and run on the racetrack? Of course they don't.

So yeah, you know you can sit there and say it only costs $1500 to port this cylinder head but it costs thirty grand to get to this point. And that holds true with everything. Everything on the motorcycle, cam profiles, piston design, connecting rods, all that stuff has to be thought out, tested, modified, evolved, till we get to the point where we get a nice reliable package that works well as a combination. So you're exactly right in saying the big cost is incurred in development.
