Blue Ion Bulbs

Blue Ion Bulbs

From: Kai Huang (chikai@andrew.cmu.edu)
I just threw in a set of blue ion bulbs in my third generation LS, and it looks awesome. I think it is the closet thing to a H.I.D. lights that the Benz's and Porsches have. I'm not sure how legal they are because they are blue, but I can always argue that if the Porsches have them why can't I? The only down side to the lights is that they cost $40 a piece, so about $90 for the pair with tax.

After only owning the blue ions for about two days (and two awesome nights) I exchanged the bulbs for yellow ions. My reason for doing so was not only because the cop was giving other people crap for having them (the cops said I was impersonating an emergency vehicle), but they actually inhibited night vision even more than the stock lights. Although they are 80 watts (55W on low beam is the legal limit), the blue light it emitted kinda blended into the dark pavement and didn't reflect much back to the driver. It did make the white speed limit signs look bluish-green which I thought was kinda cool. And sorry if I had confused anybody, but the blue ions are NOT the High Intensity Discharge lights that the Porsches and Mercedes have. HID lights may look bluish through the lens but they actually emit white light (which of course is perfectly legal), unlike the blue light that the blue ions putout. But if your still interested in getting these lights you can either contact me or flip through the most recent issue of Sport Compact Car and look for a company called NOPI. Their advertisements usually take up about three to four pages and they carry both the blue and yellow ions. So far I have not had any trouble with the yellow ions. I have the third generation Integra, the ones with the projector low beams, so the lens only looks slightly yellow. They work great at night, especially in the rain (I live in Seattle). I have had a few people flash their high beams at me because they thought I had my high beams on but its only because they are 80 watts. I really don't think a cop is going to stop you for having too high of a wattage low beam. Enough said. GOOD LUCK!
