2013 Accord EX 6MT

We are slowly working our way through every iteration of the 2013 Accord. Prior to testing this EX model with Honda's Earth Dreams 2.4L DOHC i-VTEC 4-cylinder and 6-speed manual transmission, we have tested the 189hp Sport model (with CVT), the 278hp Accord V6 Touring (6AT) sedan, and the 278hp Accord V6 Coupe (6MT).

Technically there are two more distinct 2013 Accord configurations that we could test (6MT Sport, and the 185hp K24W1 engine hooked to a CVT), but with this fourth test we feel like that for all practical purposes we've covered the bases pretty well.

Honda offers this 6-speed 4-cylinder combination exclusively in the LX/LX-S (Coupe), EX, and Sport trim levels of the sedan or coupe, so if you want leather and/or the factory navigation system in a 4-cylinder Accord with the 6-speed manual transmission, unfortunately you're out of luck.

That's too bad, because Honda's smooth shifting 6-speed manual transmission and the torquey and eager-to-rev nature 2.4L DOHC i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine are quite a pleasurable combination to operate. We spent a week (and over 1100 miles) driving this particular Accord and found acceleration to be quite good (with our VBox Driftbox, we measured 0-60 in 6.6 seconds) while delivering excellent fuel economy, particularly at suburban/in-town speeds (upper 20's). Fuel economy was also pretty good at highway speeds (right at 35mpg average at 70-72mph), but as the average cruising speeds increase, we noticed that the Accord's mileage sags a bit. On a long trip where we cruised at a fairly steady average of around 78-80mph, we observed fuel economy averages in the 31-32mpg range. That's still not bad, but the much more potent Accord V6 Touring model we sampled several months ago delivered better fuel economy at these higher cruising speeds, but it wasn't nearly as thrifty as the 4-cylinder model around town.

Continue to the next page to see how this Accord performs on the dyno.
