According to TOV Member Paulbrownz, Honda has distributed a "teaser" video to dealerships. This teaser video contains a bit of info on the upcoming Honda Fit, which is set to slot in beneath the Civic in size and price.
The Fit has been available in other markets already for four years, so it's already pretty much a known quantity to Honda enthusiasts, but many have wondered which motor and transmission would be offered here. We figured that given the type of roads we have here and the American appetite for torque, it would probably have to be the largest motor available, and it appears that is what we're getting. The video mentions a 105hp, 1.5L motor, which sounds a lot like the 110hp 1.5L SOHC VTEC motor that's currently offered in the Jazz/Fit. The video also mentions a 5-speed automatic transmission with sportshift - we assume that this will be optional while a 5-speed manual transmission will be the standard offering.
Quite possibly the most surprising piece of info is that the Fit's fuel economy figures are quoted at 32 city/37 highway, hardly impressive from such a small and lightweight vehicle. These preliminary figures sound disappointingly low, particularly in light of the current marketing value of high fuel economy figures and Honda's own emphasis on maximizing efficiency.
UPDATE: We've just spoken with a Honda official and they are obviously unable to comment on any of this information other than to state that there are not yet any official specifications regarding power or fuel economy for the upcoming Fit. We can still expect to hear some of that stuff in the January time frame.
