RDX Update: Turbo plans pushed back

We've recently learned that while there was in fact a turbocharged 4-cylinder motor being developed for the RDX (as first reported by Motor Trend), it turns out that that information was quite dated, and in fact Honda's plans changed nearly a year ago. The best information that we currently have indicates that the RDX will be hitting the market next year with naturally aspirated V6 power.

What's the reason for this? Supposedly, Honda was not pleased with the durability of any of the available turbochargers on the market and decided that it would be best to launch the RDX with a V6. The development is said to be complete on this drivetrain and it is considered "available for use", so there's a possibility it could eventually appear in the RDX or another product once there is a turbocharger supplier who meets Honda's strict parts quality and durability standards. The turbocharger was said to carry favor because it could deliver the desired performance levels (comparable to a V6) but with improved fuel economy, a strong market consideration in this era of soaring fuel costs.
