Torrance, Calif. 08/20/2002 -- American Honda Motor, Co. Inc. announced changes for the 2003 Honda Civic product line. The Si rejoined the line-up earlier this year as a 2002 model and has been embraced by young automotive enthusiasts throughout the country.
The 2003 Civic Si Hatchback continues to set the standard in the small car performance segment in the areas of performance, advanced engineering, safety, functionality and style. The 2003 model receives minor product enhancements aimed at keeping it at the head of the pack. Changes include:
Vivid Blue exterior color.
"Wave" cut ignition key.
Heat rejecting "green" glass.
The Si's lively performance comes from Honda's renowned VTEC technology that brings a lightweight 2.0-liter, DOHC engine to life to make 160 horsepower and 130 lbs.-ft. of torque. The new i-VTEC system helps to provide maximum torque throughout the power band while achieving high fuel economy.
The new i-VTEC improves on Honda's previous VTEC system with the addition of a new VTC (Variable Timing Control) system that continuously adjusts the intake camshaft phase according to the engine load. This incredible engine is mated to a smooth shifting close ratio 5-speed manual transmission that maximizes the driving exhilaration.
To meet the demands of the enthusiast driver, the suspension and braking systems were developed to provide the highest levels of performance. The suspension features impressive front and rear stabilizer bars, dampers and springs that are much firmer than Civic coupe and sedan derivatives. Large diameter front disc brakes and standard rear disc brakes support sure-footed stops. Wider wheels and lower profile tires maximize the vehicle's performance instinct. Aerodynamic enhancements including the rear roof spoiler and the mesh-type front grille further accentuate the Si's performance character.
The Si's performance character continues in the interior through supportive sporty seats with red stitching, white gauges, smart control placement, functionality and excellent visibility. The Si is not only high performance it is also highly functional and versatile. The rear seats fold flat in a 60/40 configuration to allow storage of larger items. The Si's total package makes a strong appeal to younger enthusiast buyers.
