CR-V Fires Continue, Prompting a Reopening of NHTSA Investigation
 Date: September 16, 2004 08:00

The Detroit News is reporting that that the NHTSA has re-opened their investigation of 2003 and 2004 CR-Vs to determine the cause of occasional engine fires.

There was a preliminary investigation in July, but the NHTSA concurred with Honda's early determination that the fires were caused by improperly installed oil filters.

Though Honda has issued service notifications to service departments and technicians across the US, continued reports of fires have prompted the NHTSA to elevate the probe to a full engineering analysis of the issue.
