RealTime Acura RSX Wins Again
April 25, 2004 – Braselton, Ga.
Three-time SCCA Pro Racing SPEED Touring Car Champion Pierre Kleinubing hustled his RealTime Racing A-SPEC Acura RSX way to a dominant win in the non-championship Sports Compact GP race at Road Atlanta, taking the checkered flag 5.068 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.
Kleinubing started third on the 17-car grid for today’s race – his finish position in Saturday’s qualifying race on the 2.54-mile road course. He moved to the point on the fifth lap and laid down successive laps within tenths of each other to inch away from the field.
“The RSX is an absolutely awesome car for a track like Road Atlanta,” said Kleinubing. “The handling is just incredible, but I’m sure when we get back to the championship races over the Memorial Day weekend at Lime Rock, (Team Manager) Nathan Bonneau and the rest of our crew will have our new A-SPEC Acura TSX handling just as well.”
Kleinubing praise for his crew was lavish. “On Saturday, the car wasn’t what we needed to beat the BMWs, but these RealTime boys have a habit of surprising me every day. Sunday’s car was entirely different than Saturday’s car – it was a winner!”
Kleinubing won a series-record $10,000, and averaged 94.022 miles per hour, only marginally slower than his fastest single race lap speed of 94.678 mph.
Kleinubing has finished first or second in Touring Car championship points every year since his 1997 debut with RealTime Racing. He won the championship in his rookie year, and repeated in 2000 and 2001.
As Sunday’s invitational event was a part of the inaugural Drift Atlanta weekend, the race will be not be televised.
Round Two of the SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Championship takes place at Lime Rock Park May 29-31, as part of the Mohegan Sun Presents the Lime Rock Park Grand Prix.
The RealTime Racing Touring Cars are sponsored by the Acura Division of American Honda, A-SPEC Performance Parts, Red Line Oil, Eibach Springs, BOSCH, Sparco, Hella, Brembo, Gemini Technologies, Goodridge, Hawk Performance, and Acura Genuine Parts.
