Honda Insight is EPA Fuel Economy Champion for Fifth Consecutive Year

Torrance, Calif. 10/23/2003 -- The 2004 Honda Insight gas-electric hybrid vehicle, arriving in dealerships nationwide next week, has earned the highest EPA fuel economy rating for any passenger car for the fifth consecutive year. The EPA rates the Honda Insight city/highway fuel economy at 60/66 mpg and the Civic Hybrid city/highway fuel economy at 46/51 mpg (manual transmission models).
"We're thrilled to hold the title of America's most fuel efficient vehicle for the fifth straight year," said Gunnar Lindstrom, senior manager of American Honda's Alternative Fuel Vehicle Programs. "Honda vehicles are consistently at the top of their class for fuel efficiency and low emissions and the Insight is no exception."
The Insight became America's first hybrid vehicle when it was introduced in December 1999. It utilizes Honda's innovative (IMA) gas-electric hybrid system in combination with an ultra-lightweight and aerodynamic aluminum body to achieve the highest fuel efficiency for a gasoline-powered vehicle.
Honda is the only manufacturer to offer two U.S. hybrid models and leads the industry in hybrid sales for 2003. Sales of the Insight and Civic Hybrid total 18,213 units through September. Civic Hybrid sales of 17,177 for this year have already surpassed 2002 full-year sales by 3,470 units.
