Japanese Vezel MMC hints at styling updates for coming 2019 HR-V refresh

We've seen photos of the refreshed Vezel floating around for awhile now but last week Honda made it official and released a bunch of photos on their Japanese media site. If you're looking for a sneak peek at what the upcoming 2019 HR-V has in store, this is probably a pretty good starting point. The biggest, most notable change happens up front, where Honda has updated the grille and headlights, bringing the Vezel more in line with the fascias of the latest Civic and Accord models. "Inline type" LED headlights and the current interpretation of Honda's "Solid Wing Face" grille theme are the key items here, along with the "corporate" LED foglights that appear to be the same units that debuted on the 2016 Accord MMC. The rest of the styling updates appear to be pretty minor, with almost nothing changing at the rear of the Vezel.
We're not expecting to see the Vezel's i-DCD hybrid powertrain which features a 1.5L engine mated to a 7-speed DCT an an electric motor/generator. This would be an interesting option for the HR-V, though, particularly with the available Realtime AWD option. We'd also love to see some variant of the Civic's turbocharged 1.5L L15B7 engine, which has proven to be extremely efficient while belting out very good torque and power numbers. The current HR-V's 1.8L 4-cylinder engine delivers solid fuel economy, but it's sorely lacking in the pace department. So far, we've not heard any real encouraging news on this front but we're trying to find out what we can.
The interior of the Vezel has been updated, but the updates seem to be pretty minor - new stitching a slightly redesigned front seats. The infotainment system of the Vezel has been updated to support Apple Carplay and Android Auto, and we fully expect to see similar upgrades to the 2019 HR-V. If you click through the photo gallery below, you'll see that the Vezel offers fully automatic up/down operation on all 4 windows - this is another one of those things that we're guessing WON'T be seen on the HR-V.
Honda sensing is now standard throughout the Vezel range, so we fully expect to see it applied to the 2019 HR-V as well.
