The new Honda Inspire (a Japanese version of the US Honda Accord) to be released tomorrow (June 19th in Japan) will offer a new version of the J30A 3.0l V6. The new version develops 247 hp (a little less under the SAE standard) and adds "Variable Cylinder Management" to the i-VTEC system. At low engine loads the intake and exhaust valves in three cylinders are sealed and the engine runs on the other three. Honda uses active noise cancellation and the active control engine mount to reduce engine vibration.

Honda claims fuel economy is comparable to the 2.4l Accord (Acura TSX), but according to the numbers provided by Honda (12.0 km/l / 31mpg v. 11.6 km/l / 30mpg), the advantage over the US Accord (240 hp J30A without "Variable Cylinder Management") is negligible.
