Civic engineer confirms "a faster 'Type R style' car is under development" (for Europe)

With the all new European Civic launching at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week, it was inevitable that the question "What are the plans for the Type-R?" would come up.

New Honda Civic chief engineer Mitsuru Kariya has confirmed to Autocar a faster ‘Type R style’ car is under development.


So that begs the question of what engine will find its way under this 'Type R style' car's bonnet? The same gimped K24 that's found in our 2012 Si, or a proper 'Type R style' engine? Also of note, this hotter version of the Civic may not even be badged as a 'Type R', even though "At one point the Type R variant accounted for 15 per cent of Honda’s total Civic sales."
